A wreath, a movie ...

and a haircut :).

That's how Ethan and I spent our Friday night while Matt worked late.

Wreath Ornament 101 -

I purchased the following from The Dollar Tree and used all but 5 ornaments:
  • 2 (7 Packs) Silver Regular Sized Ornaments
  • 4 (5 Packs) Green Regular Sized Ornaments
  • 3 (15 Pack) Red Small Sized Ornaments
  • Total of 79 ornaments bought, 74 used, 5 small ornaments left over.

Prep your ornaments (approx. 30 minutes):
I laid mine out on the counter covered with newspaper (because I'm OCD like that) and then snipped off all the gold cords (for hanging on the tree) and hot glued the "plug" to the top of the ornament to secure.

Shape Wire Hanger (approx. 1-2 minutes depending upon how fussy you are):
Pull down on the bottom to make a diamond shape. Then smooch the two side corners into a softer curve and make a shape as close to a circle as you can get :).

Open up hanger (approx. 1 minute):
Using plier, "unthread" the two pieces of wire, but still keep the original grooves. Basically you are just opening it up, but want to close it in the same way when all your oranments have been threaded.

Start adding ornaments (approx. 20 minutes depending upon the "help" you are dealing with):
I stuck with a pattern of 3 regular sized, 3 smaller sized, repeat. Once I got to the end I still had a lot of small ornaments, so I added 5 to the beginning and the end. Try as I might to keep the green and silver spaced evenly, the green seemed to overtake most of the wreath. Oh well. The more ornaments you add the more "full" your wreath will start to look, don't worry if it isn't looking right in the beginning.

Close the wreath and add a bow (approx. 5 minutes):
Once all your ornaments are threaded and you've come full circle, grab your pliers and twist the hanger back to it's original closure. Then depending on how you choose to hang your wreath, you could probably clip off the extra "hook" part of the hanger. For now I left mine on, I thought it might come in handy. Add ribbon to cover said hook and waaaa-laaa, a fun new wreath.

Total time - Under an hour
Total spent - Under $10

Aren't you glad I typed all that out? As if you needed a 101 on what is really a glorified 'lacing beads' project. Come on, you've been doing that since you were five. And speaking of five, look at my five helping out and giving me his best cheesey camera smile :).

He doesn't look so shaggy any more though ... after this I cut his hair (as in a full hair cut, by me ... my first time) while we watched "The Santa Clause."

And now it's back to sewing for me ... I have one final custom order of 25 list takers that I'm vowing to finish by this weekend!! The table runner may be a few more days out ...

Happy Friday!!

I love it! I'm going to have to make that my one crafty project this year! And way to go on the hair cut...not sure how it turned out but kudos for doing it! David won't let me do the boys but I sneak in trims now and then.
