Is the kitchen the heart of your home?
I know ours is. It's almost the first room you walk into after our entry way, right at the front of the house (which I always thought I'd hate, but really like) open to the other heart of our home, the living room.

I spend hours every day in the kitchen. Preparing, Making, Serving, Clearing, Cleaning, Washing, Loading, Unloading ... Repeat at least three times. It amazes me the amount of time every day that revolves around food.
Wouldn't life be simpler if we could just take a pill 3x a day?
Sure ... but it wouldn't be nearly as satisfying, wouldn't feed (haha) our desire to nurture and it sure wouldn't build any memories or traditions, would it?

When I think about it that way, I really do enjoy those hours I spend in the kitchen serving those I love most. And who am I kidding, I love to bake and love to enjoy what I bake. Which is also why I run (or exercise) ... for dessert :D.
Today's work in the kitchen filled my mind with these thoughts and warmed my heart just like the oven warmed our house.
Today our kitchen was filled with love ...
Waking up to homemade applesauce in the crockpot.
Making a second batch of strawberry jam while E was at school.

And finishing off the day with 'Derby Pie' fresh from the oven.

A good way to start and end the day, in the heart of our home.
Happy Thursday!

Guess what?? I MADE dinner tonight. Yep...I made enchiladas & salad for dinner. And Bethie came over for dinner. She brought dessert. It was a nice meal. And I think she's going to run with me at the Iris Festival!
I'll call you tomorrow. xoxo
Wishing I had woke up and ended my day at your house. ;o)
I need your Derby pie recipe, sounded good when you described it on my blog!
I agree with Amanda! Finals week and eating well do not align...frozen burrito for dinner, jealous? Note to self: must work on being domestic before Marshall gets home :)
I told Mike at dinner last night that I think I spent about 95% of my day in the kitchen. Making jam is wonderful and biscuits to go with is was delicious but it took all day! Good thing it's so cute! :)
