Odds and Ends ...

... from the last week.

I mentioned that Bethany gave me the "sweetest" little crocheted cupcake for my birthday... and here is a not so great picture of it. It's SO cute. Along with two great books. And the most lovely, delicate scarf from my dear friend Jenn. I am spoiled with good friends!

And in sewing news ... I think the new machine is inspiring me to try out some new things. While I was at JoAnn's on Monday (as in a week ago now) I looked through the women's clothing patterns (I know, clothes, who do I think I am? Sewing clothes?!?) and picked out a few summer type blouse/top patterns. And knowing I wouldn't want to wait, grabbed some fabric to try one of them out. I started with Simplicity pattern 2892.

And now that I have a captive audience (that's why I include the pictures) I can re-cap the rest of my Everyday in May ... which if you were keep track, I last documented 5.26.08 ... which means I have 5 more days of May.

Here goes:

5.27.08
  1. Putting off "should be" sewing for "want to be" sewing.
  2. Enjoying my last hours of "mommy time" while E was at his last "official" day of preschool.
  3. Ethan making a graduation card for Travis, including an envelope full of butterflies he punched out.
  4. Celebrating Trav's (my nephew) high school graduation at an open house.
  5. Long "wog" with Erin ... this marks almost 2 weeks of getting back into my exercise routine.
(A quick snapshot of Ethan and I while Matt got the camera ready for graduation night.)

5.28.08
  1. Starting the morning off by doubling up on my allergy medication, Matt telling me I needed to throw it up or I'd have to go to the hospital, Poison Control telling me I'd be fine :P.
  2. Sewing, sewing, sewing ... finished my blouse and started on Erin's craft apron.
  3. Dinner with family at Chili's before the Graduation.
  4. The BEST present from Matt from Starbucks while we waited for the graduation to start. This my friends is not just another picture of my beloved iced tea in a Starbucks cup. No, no, that cup is hard insulated plastic that looks just like their disposable cups (you know the ones I refill at home for a few days?!?). Love it!! Oh and if I have them put my tea in it I save a whopping .10!!
  5. Sharing in the big milestones of family and documenting them on "film."
(The graduate and all his girls :). Grandma, Mom, Aunt (looking like I'm sporting a bump in this photo), Graduate, Girlfriend, Sister-in-Law and Grandma)

5.29.08
  1. Today I paid for the "OD" of allergy medication ... it was a long, hard day!
  2. Yummy new recipe made for the Preschool Luau - I'm not sure what to call it but it combined cold angel hair, broccoli slaw, green onions, cilantro and sesame-ginger dressing.
Nest time I'll throw in some chicken too!
  3. Celebrating the end of Ethan's first year of preschool (even if we were an hour late ... thank you medication!) with a luau lunch and games and playing with classmates.
  4. A much needed nap while E watched cartoons (I RARELY do this, but I was having a real hard time functioning).
  5. Another long "wog" ... I know this shouldn't be a highlight of my day but I really love it and feel so good when I make myself go ... especially on these long 4.5mile loops!
5.30.08
  1. Finally Friday ... and that in itself was a celebration after this crazy week!
  2. Ethan enjoying his first treat from the ice cream man. Now I can't remember the rest of this day, so this story will have to count as the other 3 highlights ... So, as we're sitting out front playing we hear the music from the ice cream truck. I told Ethan to go down to the sidewalk and watch while I got some money ready. So he is so cute waiting and yelling "come here Ice Cream Man" for several blocks worth of music. Finally we hear it getting closer and look to the end of the street only to see the van zoom by our street. Oh if I had the camera rolling for the instant drama that unfolded ... tears and wailing about "why doesn't he like me" and other sobs. I thought I was going to have to get in the car and chase that man down ... but we soon heard the music coming closer and realized he had just gone around a block and was coming back down the opposite direction. So knowing we would have an all out emotional break down if he passed up again, I walked down to the sidewalk to wait too. And I kid you not this ice cream man was going 30 miles an hour down our road. Ethan is jumping and I wave and he finally hits the breaks in front of us and manages to stop a house away from us, throws it into reverse and with the same speed backs up to us! Seriously, it was crazy ... almost as if we were bugging him wanting ice cream. But Ethan got a Bugs Bunny treat and all was well :).
  3. Not sure how I forgot these ... but I just remembered Friday really was a great day!!
  4. After running morning errands, I grabbed a favorite lunch for me, a Zen Salad (grilled chicken, fresh cabbage, rice, crunchy noodles with an awesome sauce!) and a favorite lunch for Ethan, Happy Meal (chicken nuggets, apples and chocolate milk). Then we headed to a Starbucks with outside seating, I grabbed an iced tea and we enjoyed lunch together. I started having these little outdoor summer lunches with Ethan about 2 years ago and we both love it!
  5. I got my windows washed (outside and inside)!! It was such a blessing as I haven't taken the time to do the outside in over 2 years of living here!! Yikes!! And the best part ... it was three teenagers who are raising support for a 3 month summer missions trip to Tanzania, Africa. How cool is that? And do you know what they were charging? $2 window ... clearly I had to give them more ... that was way too little for their effort!

5.31.08
  1. Last Day of May
  2. No Schedule - Love those kinds of weekends
  3. A little shopping (new perfume and an awesome Gymboree sale) and lunch at our favorite little Mexican restaurant.
  4. A big NAP!
  5. Making Smore brownies for dessert.

Phew, I'm glad that's over ... and I'm glad I pretty well documented a whole month for us. Now I need to make that mini album, uhm yes, I should have that done before next May :).

Alright, check back tomorrow for some crafty sharing and a new blog!

Happy Tuesday!

Seriously cute shirt! If only I didn't have 5 (yes 5! Maleigha starts tomorrow!) kids to chase around all day I might be able to break out my sewing maching. You're inspiring me! But if you do homeschool Ethan and start making his clothes we may need to stage an intervention
Cool Starbucks cup. How sweet of Matt. Does it have the same "feel" as the other ones?
That was a cute story about Ethan and the ice cream man.

That cupcake pin holder thing (I am sure there is a more technical name for it, sorry) :0) is so cute! Did she make that? I also LOVE your shirt. I am always so impressed with the things you make. When will you be adding those to Knitty Bitties?!

Awesome shirt! I love it. I saw that fabric at Joann's too and thought it was cute, and it looks really great as a top!

The McCall's 5388 is a really easy pattern overall and sews up really really fast. I will say though that there is one hard part attaching the shoulders which I've had to do about 10 times each time I've made the shirt. It drives me crazy and so I came up with my own way to do it.

Thanks so much for commenting! I'm so glad you did; now I can read your fabulous blog too!
