Can Jesus and Santa Co-Exist?

Not to worry, this is not some deep theological discussion ... just a chance to record Ethan's thoughts on Christmas. It's hard for a three year old to wrap their mind around Christmas being Jesus' birthday as well as Santa bringing you presents for Jesus' birthday ;). In our house, while we haven't pushed the idea of Santa, we're happy to blend the magic of Santa along with the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of our Saviour. So we're doing our best, answering Ethan's questions and just really trying to enjoy his excitement about all of it ...

For example, this morning he got to dress as one of the shepherds in Sunday School and was so excited to tell me about it and taking care of the lambs.

And the other day while trying to once again figure out all the logistics of Christmas, he was telling me that Jesus wouldn't get any presents on Christmas. "That's right" I said, thinking we'd been over how Jesus was in heaven, but we celebrated Him here on earth with presents. Well that isn't quite what Ethan was thinking because the next thing he said was, "maybe Santa could throw the presents into the clouds for baby Jesus." And thus answering that yes, Jesus and Santa can co-exist, happily in fact, especially if you're three ;).

Happy Sunday!

I'm so glad you posted that story. I love the way their little brains try to figure all this out.

Your garland turned out really cute! I hope it helps Ethan get to his thumb day quicker. :)

We're going through the same thing with Judah....so far, we've decided to not emphasize Santa at all, and he's heard plenty about him from friends and TV an the stores etc...so, so far, Santa is really just part of Christmas, and not really the present giver either...I think he also knows that Santa is make believe, but we've made it all pretty vague. I'm torn...
