Keeping up on the blog is clearly harder to do as the week goes on :). But I did have a few fun things I wanted to share, so we'll just have a little creative post and pretend like it's Friday (oh how I wish it were Friday already ... but that's another story!).
Kool-aid Play Dough -
My first attempt at homemade play dough and decided to give the Kool-aid version a try. You see my sweet friend Kelly (and her boys) feel so bad that Ethan has never experienced Kool-aid at home. So many many months ago she sent Ethan a few packets in the mail ... and they went straight to the back of the cupboard :). But I got them out and put them to good use and we had delicious smelling purple grape play dough.
Adding to the fun was a pack of teeny tiny animals from Target's dollar spot. It's quite entertaining to hide the animals in the play dough and try to find them ... or make a big "mud puddle" for all the little piggies ... or countless other things.
Spin Art-
This week's kids creative fun will be doing spin art with a basic salad spinner (I grabbed ours at Wal*Mart for $3) as seen on this blog post.
This post is lacking in pictures ... I'll try to get some taken this week and give a visual re-cap on Friday, okay?
Lastly ... I wanted to announce ... a Happy Mail Swap. A what? A swap. What kind of swap? Happy Mail. What is Happy Mail? It's opening your mailbox and seeing a package addressed to you, full of fun stuff you didn't have to pay for, that is a total surprise and when you open it makes you very happy. Are you interested yet? I hope so. I'd love to have a lot of participants in this swap ... so let me give you a few more details.
Andrea's Happy Mail Swap ~
- Deadline to sign up for the swap - July 31st
- Deadline to send your happy mail to your swap partner - September 1st
- I will pick partners and then send you an e-mail with your partner information by August 4th.
- The idea of this swap is to send your partner mail (an envelope or package) that will make her happy. Part of the mail needs to be handmade (you don't have to be "crafty" to join in this swap. You could bake something, make a card, write them a poem ... it just needs to be something you've created). The rest of your swap is up to you, you can make more things for your partner or just send them some things that make you happy and you think would make them happy to receive in the mail.
- And to see just how clever, crafty, creative, etc. you are ... let's keep the total spent to under $15!
You don't have to have a blog to participate. If you've never done a swap and have questions, feel free to e-mail me.
If you want to join in the "Happy Mail" Swap, send an e-mail to happymailswap@gmail.com with the following information (which will only be seen by myself and your partner):
- Name, Address, E-mail, Blog (if applicable)
- Favorite Color
- Hobbies
- Favorite Drink
- Favorite Summer Activity
Happy Friday (on Monday)!!

Just this afternoon I was thinking I was going to sign up for one of those apron swaps just to get some fun mail. So sign me up for this instead. Yea! Great idea!
And even though we're going to do the playdough this week GIVE THE KID KOOLAID TO DRINK! It's not going to kill him. Or send him over here and I'll give it to him. And let him play IN the sand. :)
OH, how tempting! I love receiving mail, especially packages! However, I am terrible at sending mail. I do ok from time to time sending little notes but if it requires going to the post office ;( yikes!
Did you mean $15 including the shipping or just on the stuff inside.
Ok so this is totally selfish but sign me up and I"ll get my butt to the post office!
I'm always game for some good happy mail!
Yay for happy mail! I'll play along!
