2 for 2 ...

That seems to be the trend, two posts a week for the last two weeks ... so much for things slowing down!

I think that this last blogging hiatus could be attributed to Matt having FOUR days off in a row ... whoo-hoo ... that is always a treat AND a major holiday.

The funny thing is we weren't really that busy over our long weekend, but we were enjoying no schedules and lots of family time.

So how about some pictures and a few highlights from our days ...
  • Mid-week pool time and pizza dinner with friends (I really LOVE just being with friends, watching our children play and sharing a meal ... without it having to be a BIG deal ... when was the last time you had a night with friends?)
  • Family movie night - National Treasure 2 - If you haven't seen this, make a night of it soon and watch it as a family ... highly entertaining and very family friendly :). We enjoyed ours with candy and smores during "intermission".
  • Sewing ... I didn't let my orders creep into too much of our family weekend, but I did have four orders to get done and anther blouse I wanted to make for me :).
  • Fourth of July ~
After a scrumptious dinner with family, we headed to our "Liberty Day Parade" which is really a sad representation of what should be one of the biggest and best parades of the year. None the less there is something about children and parades ...
So happy Jeff, Bethany and Claire joined us ... Claire was so happy and kept yelling "Yeaaaaaa" and running in circles :).

As we were walking back to our cars we stumbled into the greatest Fourth of July find ... one of our former United States Presidents ... I think ol' Abe was kind of fond of us ...

... after we snapped this picture, he walked along side of us. What timing for us that we'd watched National Treasure 2 the night before and Ethan recognized Abe from the movie :).

And the our "real" weekend happened and I'm telling you it was boring as could be, in a wonderful way. Now we're back at it ... knee deep in to-do's like swimming lessons everyday, deep cleaning the house, sewing, preparing for a long vacation, etc. etc.

So, I do have plans to blog everyday this week since I do have many other things to talk about and I don't want to loose all you readers I've worked so hard to get :). I've had a few fun blog ideas running around my head and I think this week would be a good week to share two of them.

FIRST, What's for dinner? Those of you that are in charge of meal planning in your home might relate to my weekly frustration as I sit down to make out our grocery/meal plan. I ask the boys what they want and get either "Peanut Butter and Jelly" or "I don't care ... whatever is good". Except I don't want PB&J or Whatever 7 days a week ... so I search and try to come up with at least 4-5 good meals, usually trying a new recipe a week. So I thought it would be fun to just read what ya'll are having for dinner. It can be as simple as just telling me on your blog, or you could include the recipe if you've got time OR if you want to get really fancy you could do all of the above and add pictures too!! Alright, who wants to join me?

Monday - Bobby Flay's Spaghetti (minus meatballs), Salad and a loaf of bread made from this book (more on this another day this week).

Tuesday - FFY = Fend For Yourself = Leftovers, Sandwiches, Cereal = Mom doesn't want to cook :).

I'll announce the second blog idea on Friday ... I'm going to try to bring back my Creative Friday posts.

Happy Tuesday!!

Sounds like a good weekend. Although your 4th of July would've been even better had you stopped in at a certain birthday party. :)

I was just thinking about putting out a blog request for new recipes. I don't like to "cook" as much in the summer. I revived a favorite from last summer last night that I think you would like.
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Chicken-Salad-with-Bacon-Lettuce-and-Tomato/Detail.aspx

I made some changes though. I chop the chicken instead of shredding it and then only mix the chicken & bacon in with the dressing. I make it in the morning and let it chill all day. We eat it in wraps and add the lettuce, tomato & avocado as we make the wraps so they don't get soggy. It's really good. Oh and I usually don't have celery.

I like that you have Fend For Yourself days too. Ours are usually Sundays.
Let me know if that link doesn't work. It looks funny.

GREAT idea! I'm actually reading blogs right now so I can avoid the dreaded "I'd better come up with a few ideas for dinner so I can make a shopping list cause we're almost out of food". I guess I'm not the only one ;)

I've never actually tried any of these, but they're all in my "to try someday" pile :)

Cheesy Potato Cups

Hey! I know Abe Lincoln! He used to be a salesperson at the Willey and quit in order to do the Lincoln thing all the time. He is apart of a real group. I have him come to my class during Presidents week. You should see kindergarteners think that he is the real thing! I am glad you got to meet him!

It is so much harder to cook in the summer...I'm out playing with kids, the day flies by and dinner time is all of sudden here, I'm usually not all that hungry, I could go and on. But reagardless I have a family to feed, so I usually plan quick simple meals. I'm glad you're at least coming up with creative things to blog about...I'm in a rut.

I'm just now catching up on blog reading! Thanks for the link to the Spaghetti! I went to Red Robin yesterday but didn't get up the gumption to ask if I could have the kid's spaghetti meal!
