Wow!

Today was a day of good deals and happy mail!

First the happy mail ... I got my first kit from Studio Calico. From the box to the inside wrap job, this is a class act creative kit ... love it! I have a feeling it'll be hard to use, but I better or the drool will ruin it! I also got my latest issue of Country Living ... I always like a new magazine for bedtime reading!

Second, the deals ... where to start ...

Steve & Barry's, well I've already mentioned their great grand opening sale. Today I just returned a few items and picked up some jeans for Bethany & Jessie (just call me personal shopper to my friends).

Kohl's, thanks to Amanda I knew they were having 50% off their clearance. And while I had no plans to go look (knowing I'd buy) I was right there and had some time to kill before picking up E from preschool. I got a denim skirt for $3 and slipper socks for $1.60 ... whoo-hoo! I also picked up some adorable capri-length cuffed dress pants for Jessie for $4!

Target, well I ran in for D-rings and baby shampoo. I came out without either of those, but instead got some great deals on toys. A Little Einsteins Create A Masterpiece for $6, FP Easy Link & Extra Characters for less than $10 (I think I'm going to list these on Ebay) and the best deal of all ...

This elephant rocker. Isn't it the cutest thing? And what am I going to do with this? Well I have NO idea, so I'm showing you and if you or someone you know is interested in it, let me know. I feel a little *weird* selling something on my blog, but it sure beats Ebay or Craig's List. I can always put it in our church nursery or gift it, but could not resist the deal. It was originally $53.99 and I got it for more than 50% off! Leave me a comment with your e-mail if you're interested.

And thankfully it was time to pick up Ethan ... otherwise who knows what other "good deal" trouble I could have gotten into.

Moving onto apron talk ...

Here are more pictures of "Isabella", the apron that is. I figured what better way to get to use my baby girl names than to name the aprons :).

I'm going to offer "her" up to the first person that wants to take her home for a mere $9.99. I'll even include shipping in that if you're far away. It's quite a deal really as there are only 3 small flaws (two tiny bits of raw edge exposed on the waistband pink piping & one of the ties had a seam folded ... seriously things you'll have to hunt to find, but little flaws to me). It cost me almost that much in fabric and I spent about 3-4 hours crafting her. I'll do a post tomorrow, Friday (1-11-08) at approximately 9PM MST. Good Luck!

Now a few questions for you, my loyal readers and commenters:

Given the above cost/time information, what do you think would be a reasonable price for future Isabella aprons? I have another design that requires a little less fabric/time and I would probably list it for about $5 less than Isabella.

I plan on including a recipe card and some type of cute wrapping ... does this change your likely hood to buy something? The way it is presented?

What size of tote bags would you like to see? The ones I posted here are about 8x10 and didn't have any inside pockets. How necessary are pockets to you? Pockets=time, time=more money ;). Should I have both options? Again, what do you think would be a reasonable price. These are more inexpensive to make than the apron and take 1-2 hours to sew. They have a thick interfacing that gives them support and they "stand" on their own.

Anything else you think I should know about listing both the aprons/totes in my Etsy store?

One more thing I plan to do is offer a promotion/incentive for buyers. Something like a discount for buying more than one apron ... or a discount/free apron for referring 'x' number of buyers.

Alright, that seems like enough to get out for today ... I'll be back tomorrow with some more creative inspiration and the apron post at 9PM! Thanks for the feedback!

Happy Thursday!!

CUTE! Love the apron- that is too adorable. I wish I could help you with pricing, but I am just no help in that area. I do think that packaging has a big impact on what I buy.
Way to go on the Target scores!! So awesome! I love catching a good deal!

Okay...how can I get my hands on that FABULOUS Isabella apron???

I love everything about it!!! I am not sure what to tell you regarding pricing because I have only recently been on the hunt for a cool apron and I haven't been able to find one to fit my taste, so to speak...until NOW!!! You do LOVELY work and I absolutely adore the color combo you have chosen for this apron. Nothing short of stunning!

Is it still for sale??? Am I reading the $9.99 correctly??? How/where do I make my payment (if it is still for sale)???

Please let me know if this apron is still up to purchase. I'd love to be the one you choose to sell it to!!!

Thanks in advance,
Lori

Other than the apron I found in the dollar bins at Target (check my blog) I haven't seen cute aprons like yours for under $20...the ones at Anthropologie were $20 on sale...have you surfed prices on other people etsy stores to compare?

Okay there's so much to comment on here. Let's see how much I can get to before the baby wakes up. :)
I've been looking for a new denim skirt forever! Now I really need to get to Kohls this weekend!
I love that elephant but I don't know what I would do with it! I mean obviously Graham could use it but where would I put it? I may have to find a spot. You really are becoming our personal shopper aren't you. :)
I think you have the aprons priced just about right. If they aren't selling you can always lower the price later right? I think presentation is a big factor! I know you'll make them cute for sure!
For the totes, I like the idea of pockets but never use them.
Oh, Graham's awake! I think I got through most of it though. :)

I think Erin is on the right track. Do some on-line surfing and see what similar aprons are selling for. And for these 'one of a kind' items (aprons, bags etc.) I think packaging is worth extra pricing. A lot of people like to buy these as gifts, and the extra effort in packaging makes the gift 'personal' - for those very many of us who don't have any creative bent. Not that I am biased or anything - but I love your work!

I just have to say...don't cut yourself short on these aprons. Your time is so worth it. And you do GREAT work.

Second-- I loved that little card you put with Cash's hat when you sent it...I saved it. It has that boutique-y quality with you get something wrapped in tissue with a ribbon and a nice card. Its all about PERCEIVED value, I think.

I will HAVE to have an apron...:)
