Racing day, it's racing day,
Racing day, it's racing day!
It's not nervous pacing day.
Today's the day we race.
I'm ready to race a long, long race.
This race goes almost every place.
It's fast, it's long,
It's vast, it's far,
It starts out right here where we are.
But when the finish line's unfurled,
We will have raced around the world.
When we finish this long, long race
I hope, I hope I'll take first place.
Racing day, it's racing day,
Racing day, it's racing day!
It's not sausage casing day,
Today's the day we race.
Today's the day we race.
Today's the day we race.
Racing day, it's racing day,
Racing day, it's racing day!
It's not picture-tracing day,
Today's the day we race!

I couldn't help but sing the "racing day" song from The Backyardigans this morning as I got ready to run my first 5K with Bethany. We've trained for more than 3 months, with the "Couch-to-5K" and to have completed a race felt SO good and empowering and sore and wonderful and tiring ...
Were we first, second, thirtieth, fiftieth, one-hundredth? Nope, not even close, but with close to 1,000 women in the competitive race, we had at least a hundred or more finish behind us ... and we, unlike many others, never walked ... we ran the entire 3.1, including up a hill and down a hill, something we had not trained or planned for (the picture above is as we're mid-hill ... you can see all the other runners behind us).
** I'll share our official times on Monday when they hit the register **
Matt & Ethan were sweet enough to come out and cheer us on (both Matt and Jeff have been so supportive of our training and reaching our goal) and take pictures.

It really has been a great day ... not only did Bethany complete her first 5K, but she did it on her 30th birthday! How cool is that? I even made her one of my knitty bitty etsy shirts with "5K" embroidered on it. We celebrated our achievement as any other true runner would, with a big brunch at Cracker Barrel. Then we went to our long time friend Kelly's baby shower and enjoyed cheesecake and oh so cute baby boy presents. And then to top off our calorie laden day, Matt smoked ribs for us and Jeff, Bethany & Claire joined us for a birthday dinner. Of course, we still needed dessert and finished with Amanda's Fresh Peach Pie. YUM!!
I'm off to stumble into bed and enjoy a wonderful night sleep before more celebrating begins for my dear husband tomorrow!
Happy Racing Day to you ... I so wish I could find the audio for the song ... it's too cute!!

that soooo cracked me up!!! I was singing the song just b/c of your title, before I even say that you titled your post for that reason!! wow....can't tell I have a 3 year old, huh? plus, the 'yardagains' (as Judah calls them) are my favorite cartoon to watch with him!
Congrats on the 5K!!!

Go girls!! That is quite an accomplishment - as much as I'd like to think I could do it too - I'm not sure I could. I'm proud of both of you!!
