What?
Okay, the background ...
Our backyard has sat uncompleted for over three summers. It was not a place I wanted to hang out let alone invite friends over. You see a little life threatening summer set us back in our backyard plans, emotionally, physically & financially. This year we knew at minimum we needed to put in some plants in the already carved out, barren flower beds, check. And then there was my 'want' for a patio set, check. And then we realized it's pretty warm on our patio in the early evening and while our umbrella helps a little, a patio cover would help a lot, check.
I feel very fortunate that we were able to get all of these things done this year and while this space is still far from where I'd like to see it (hmmm, let's add some trees, a planter garden, fire pit and hmmm, maybe a cushy bench) I have so very much enjoyed it this year.
And I wanted to share that with some of my favorite friends, who also happen to be some of my favorite mamas ...
So, I invited them over for 'drinks & desserts' on my patio :).
Kelly replied back with the idea for 'malts & chips.' This is a tradition in their family and one I fondly remember from our early years of friendship. She didn't have to twist my arm. I provided drinks (iced tea, raspberry lemonade & water) and everyone else brought the fixings for the ice cream malts, Lays classic potato chips for dipping, strawberries and homemade chocolate syrup. Mmmmm.
I gave the house and patio a good wash, added a little festive decor (hello, $3 tissue flowers) and set up our malt/drink station ...
We laughed, talked, played "Whoonu," malted, talked some more, laughed some more ... and finally around 11PM called it a night before someone else called us into the authorities for being too noisy. Uhm, yea ... we're a pretty rowdy group.
Seriously, so much fun ... so easy and so needed after an emotional week for several of us who sent our littles (back) to school.

So jealous!! Your patio is adorable of course- love the red & aqua table runners & settings. And I LOVE the flowers. I didn't know you got a cover - how did I miss that? Sooo cute - I want to come over for malts & chips next time. Loves to you!! (And your cute patio!). :)
i second jessie, sooo jealous! let me know if you and your friends ever want to come play in the desert ;) next time maybe your sister can come? looks like it was so much fun, and I am dying that someone called you girls in!
