Smile ...

Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it’s breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
you’ll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You’ll see the sun come shining through
for you
Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That’s the time you must keep on trying
Smile what’s the use of crying
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you’ll just
Smile

Music by Charles Chaplin, Lyrics by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons

Today's sermon was on the blessing we can receive through mourning. It's something I've been thinking on a lot the past few weeks with the trials Matt & I have faced. And really, while this song may seem a little too simplified, it's message is true. It's so easy, as our pastor said, for our tragedy to become our trophy. I don't want that to happen. I don't want to be in constant mourning or heartache, I want to smile and experience the blessing.

And what better segway to the blessing we received a week ago today. As we returned home from church, there was an envelope on our front door, addressed to "The 'T' Family." With the line "Through every hardship, the Lord provides a blessing." And inside was a very sizable cashier's check to us ...

What an incredible moment of humbling. Matt & I were in awe that someone (yes, we knew who it was) we had known for less than 6 months would do this for us. We know is was laid on their hearts and they were only faithfully responding, but the truth is, they could use this money just as much as we could. It was really a moment I hope I never forget, to have my heart that full from the selfless act of another. I only hope that I can do the same someday.
